Some Vanishing Sums Involving Binomial Coefficients in the Denominator
We obtain expressions for sums of the form ∑m j=0(−1) j ( m j ) ( n+j j ) and deduce, for an even integer d ≥ 0 and m = n > d/2, that this sum is 0 or 1 2 according as to whether d > 0 or not. Further, we prove for even d > 0 that ∑d l=1 cl−1 (−1) ( n l ) l! (l+1) ( 2n l+1 ) = 0 where cr = 1 r! ∑rs=0(−1)s(rs)(r − s + 1)d−1. Similarly, we show when d > 0 is even that ∑d r=0 ar r! ( n r+1 ) ( 2n ...
متن کاملFurther Results on Vanishing Coefficients in Infinite Product Expansions
We extend results of Andrews and Bressoud on the vanishing of coefficients in the series expansions of certain infinite products. These results have the form that if (qr−tk, qmk−(r−tk); q)∞ (qr, qmk−r; q)∞ =: ∞ ∑ n=0 cnq , for certain integers k, m s and t, where r = sm+t, then ckn−rs is always zero. Our theorems also partly give a simpler reformulation of results of Alladi and Gordon, but also...

متن کاملOn deformations of 2d SCFTs
Motivated by the representation of the super Virasoro constraints as generalized Dirac-Kähler constraints (d±d†) |ψ〉 = 0 on loop space, examples of the most general continuous deformations d → e−W d e are considered which preserve the superconformal algebra at the level of Poisson brackets. The deformations which induce the massless NS and NS-NS backgrounds are exhibited. A further 2-form backg...
متن کاملMinimal Vanishing Sums of Roots of Unity with Large Coefficients
A vanishing sum a0 + a1ζn + . . .+ an−1ζ n−1 n = 0 where ζn is a primitive n-th root of unity and the ai’s are nonnegative integers is called minimal if the coefficient vector (a0, . . . , an−1) does not properly dominate the coefficient vector of any other such nonzero sum. We show that for every c ∈ N there is a minimal vanishing sum of n-th roots of unity whose greatest coefficient is equal ...
